Zscaler got named a Leader in the 2026 Gartner Magic Quadrant for SSE for the fifth year in a row, and a Leader in the 2026 Magic Quadrant for SASE Platforms for the first time. Full disclosure that will surprise nobody who reads this blog: I work here. So read the enthusiasm below as informed, not neutral.
The SSE one is the streak. Five straight years is the analyst-report equivalent of a band that keeps putting out good albums while everyone waits for them to finally release the bad one. It hasn't happened yet.
The SASE Platforms one is the new thing, and it's the part worth actually talking about.
The Two-Quadrant Thing Is Not Just Bingo
There's a version of this post that's just me listing awards like a guy reading his own LinkedIn out loud at a party. Nobody wants that. So here's why two quadrants instead of one matters architecturally.
SSE is the part that connects the right user to the right internet destination, SaaS app, or private application, and inspects what's moving. SASE is that same idea stretched out to branches, campuses, and factories, the physical places where a network used to mean a stack of boxes in a closet humming next to the mop.
The old way to do the SASE part was to take your legacy network, or a virtual firewall, and shove a cloud sticker on it. Which works about as well as putting a spoiler on a minivan. It's technically faster now. It is not, in any real sense, a race car.
Doing both under one architecture is the whole pitch. You get one place to connect users, sites, workloads, IoT and OT gear, and now AI agents, without the seams between six point products where threats like to live. The gaps between tools have always been where bad things move laterally, quietly, at 3am, like a raccoon that has learned which cabinet has the good snacks.
The Line I'd Underline
Most award press releases are executives complimenting each other until you black out. This one had an actual thesis in it:

The part doing the heavy lifting is "inspect 100% of encrypted traffic in-line." Most of the internet is encrypted now. If your security tool politely waves the encrypted stuff through because inspecting it is expensive and hard, you've built a metal detector that turns off for anyone wearing a jacket. Inspecting all of it, in-line, at scale, is the boring hard thing that actually matters, and it's the reason a proxy architecture is different from a firewall wearing a cloud costume.
Where the AI Agents Come In
The recognition also name-checks the new ZAgent Framework, which brings agentic AI into SASE management itself. That's the next chapter of a story I've written about before: the enterprise is filling up with software entities that act on their own, spin up identities, call tools, and touch data at machine speed, and none of them have a badge, a laptop, or a manager to yell at.
Extending the same zero-trust logic to those agents, and running the management plane with AI so a human isn't manually chasing threats that move faster than a human can click, is the direction all of this has been heading. Being recognized as a Leader in both quadrants the same year the ZAgent stuff lands is decent timing.
For scale context the release drops one stat worth repeating: Zscaler now protects 40% of the Forbes Global 2000. That's a lot of encrypted traffic to inspect and not wave through.
Bottom Line
Five years running as an SSE Leader is the streak. First year as a SASE Platforms Leader is the expansion. Together they say the same thing the architecture has said the whole time: connect identities to applications, inspect everything, don't trust the network, and don't build any of it out of a firewall with a cloud sticker on it.
Threats move at machine speed. The good news is the defense is finally built to move at machine speed too.
