Zscaler Just Became an F1 Team's Security Partner. Here's Why That Actually Makes Sense.

Zscaler just signed on as the Global Cybersecurity Partner for Aston Martin Aramco Formula One. Multi-year deal, logo on the nose of the AMR26, branding on the seatbelts and wing mirrors, the whole sponsorship treatment.

My first reaction was the same as everyone else's: cybersecurity company sponsors a race car, cool, more brand awareness, moving on. Then I actually read the release, and there's a real technical story buried under the sponsorship announcement. Also, full disclosure since it's relevant here: I work at Zscaler. So take the enthusiasm below as informed, not neutral.

The Numbers That Matter

A single F1 race weekend generates more than a terabyte of telemetry. Hundreds of sensors per car, all streaming in real time to engineers scattered across time zones, decisions getting made in milliseconds because a car doing 300 km/h does not wait for your dashboard to refresh.

That is not a website. That is not even a normal enterprise network. That is a distributed, high velocity, zero margin for error data pipeline, connecting a garage in the UK to a paddock wherever the circus happens to be that week, with every packet mattering.

Why This Is Actually a Zero Trust Story

Here's the part that got my attention. Zscaler is not just slapping a logo on a car. They are securing car design and race strategy data along with the real time telemetry flowing between the track and Aston Martin's UK based mission control, the AMRTC.

Think about what that means from an architecture standpoint. You have proprietary intellectual property that competitors would love to get their hands on, real time operational data that has to move fast and cannot tolerate latency from security inspection, a distributed workforce with engineers on site at the track and engineers back at base needing access to the same systems, and zero tolerance for a single point of failure, on track or on the network.

That is not a firewall problem. That is a "connect the right identity to the right application without exposing the network" problem. Which, conveniently, is exactly the pitch for Zero Trust Exchange.

The Quote That Actually Says Something

Most sponsorship press releases are just executives complimenting each other's business acumen for two paragraphs. This one had a line that landed:

"Formula One is where the future of enterprise technology gets tested at 300 km/h. Every car is a mobile data center, every race is a global, distributed operation, and every millisecond counts. In an era where threats move at machine speed, defending against attackers requires advanced AI."

"Every car is a mobile data center" is doing a lot of work in that sentence, and it happens to be true. Modern F1 cars are rolling sensor arrays with more compute and more network dependency than most branch offices had a decade ago. Most branch offices also don't have a pit crew that can change your entire risk posture in 2.3 seconds, but that's a different blog post.

Why This Isn't Just a Logo

Racing has always been a proving ground for technology that eventually shows up in commercial products: brakes, aerodynamics, hybrid powertrains, telemetry. Security is a natural next entry on that list, and not in a hand-wavy way. A network that can move a terabyte of real time data per race weekend, with the design IP of a championship contender riding on top of it, and can do it without introducing latency the team cannot afford, is a legitimate stress test. If zero trust architecture holds up there, that's a case study worth paying attention to for anyone running a distributed, real time, low tolerance for downtime environment. Which, if you squint, describes most enterprises trying to operate at global scale in 2026.

Bottom Line

Formula One is one of the most demanding data environments in professional sports: real time, high stakes, zero room for a bad millisecond. Watching Zscaler put its architecture to that kind of test, in public, on a global stage, is the kind of thing I'd want to watch even if I didn't work there. I just also happen to.
