Android phones listening to what you watch

Looks like the FTC is all over an Android app named SilverPush that is listening to everything you do, specifically TV shows that you watch. This application gains access the phones microphone and listens for ‘inaudible” tones to determine what you are watching. From ZDNet:

“Using this technology, SilverPush could generate a detailed log of the television content viewed while a user’s mobile phone was turned on.”

It is presumed that this information can be used for advertising purposes or sold to 3rd parties. Since SilverPush is not disclosing this to the end user, it could in fact be illegal. A quick Google search shows that this software company is running out in India. Again, our privacy is out the window. If it isn’t the government listening in, now we have to worry about other software companies.

Do you have an Android device? If so, you can check out this link to see if any of your applications currently have SilverPush bundled with the software.
